I'm Michael and I'm passionate about interior design. I'm always tinkering with my home and changing things, much to the annoyance of my wife. I like trying new things. Outside of the home, I like playing golf and reading.

  • The art of colour

From the Toronto Star: http://www.thestar.com/article/263435 The fall colours are gorgeous this year – burnished reds and glimmering golds, with vivid splashes of deep purple and hot orange. I hear the leaves are turning pretty colours now too, but I'm too busy picking paint colours for the bedroom to go out and look. This a great time of year to paint – either indoors or out. Exterior painting is best done when the temperature is between 15 and 20C, the humidity has been low for a few days and when no rain is expected for at least 48 hours. While interior painting can be done any time of year, fall conditions are ideal. Windows can be left open for ventilation during and after painting (although it's wise to not to do so on a windswept day when dirt and grit might mar the paint surface). The current buzzwords in paint seem to be "micro-ceramic technology," which is a key selling feature of Beauti-Tone's new Designer Series. What is micro-ceramic technology? Simply put, more »

  • Projection screen

I’m currently having a bit of a tiff with my girlfriend. It all started over my ‘wacky’ (or so she says) idea to install a projection screen in our living room. The logic, I deduced, was that I could watch football and rugby with my friends when they were round, whereas she could put on one of her chick-flicks and watch that when I was out. Well, that was the idea anyway. She absolutely hates it. Rather than getting a professional in to install it, I tried bolting it to the ceiling myself, which seemed to go fine. Except I didn’t use a level and instead relied on checking how straight it was by eye. It was not, and so now we have a rather unfortunate seating arrange just so that it’s aligned properly (or else we have to tilt our heads). So, I need to get out of the doghouse fairly soon. I was thinking of buying her a DVD to watch on the projector, but I think she’d murder me…

  • Moving is stressful - official

Moving house wasn't as stressful as I thought it'd be. I got on the phone to Argos and bought pretty much their entire furniture range. Once everything was boxed up, driven up the M4 and unloaded, it was just a case of deciding where everything would go. I moved the sofa and TV around the room so many times it was like a game of musical chairs. Eventually I found a setup that worked for me, and I had a nice sit down and a cup of tea. That's when I knew I'd moved in.
