I am a freelance designer and have worked within the design industry with some of the UK's most recognisable brands and Interior Designers. I would describe my style as 'Classic Eclectic' -- but I love design in any form or era.

  • 100% design review

I know a lot of people haven’t been able to make it along to 100% design so list below are some of some of my favourite items I saw this year. generally there are a lot of designers or businessses you have seen before but a few did stand out as either new or very interesting. the best design this year for me was the chair built by a group of designers from a research lab. There were some really nice Danish products this year as well. 1) MATHEW HILTON FOR DE LA ESPADA 2) Rothschild & bickers new range. 3)Dye cut lampshades from birch veneer by cathrinekullberg. 4)hand blown glass lamps from atelier Areti 5)leaf swing by veronica Martinez & alberto sanchez 6)new chair from Pinch Design 7)Charlene mullen textiles – some fantastic stuff this isn’t by far the best examples. 8)shimmer chair by Advanced timber concept research centre

We had the stand next to Atelier Areti. Exquisite lamps and very lovely people.

  • summer wedding season

if you are looking for something special for a friends wedding have a look in the sale for them as it means you can spend more but still sticking to your original budget!  also places like Heals and Conran are great for picking up something a little different

Good tip. Now all I need is a wedding to go to! I haven't been to a wedding for ages. Jan

  • How to get started on a home design project

There are many things to consider before you even pick up a paint swatch or fabric sample.   You need to work out a "brief" which answers the basic questions that you need to consider when then going through the designing process. You need to start at the beginning and they may seem obvious but these questions can save on some expensive mistakes - e.g.  an unsuitable flooring such as cream carpet in an area that is on route to an external door and you have 2 boisterous children. Initial questions to ask: Who lives in the house?  children, pets, granparents etc. How do you live - busy young family, very social, lots of parties, work from home etc. Any special requirements - disability access  etc. Which room Which way does it face (north, south?) Use of the room - t room, play room, formal , relaxed Who will be using the room- grown ups, children, everyone? Are you leaving anything in the room or want more »

  • good design starts with collections

If you want to make a home really work, you need to add personal posessions not just things you bought in the highstreet, as these personal items give a house character, and its great to have a story to things, when you go on holiday bring back mementoes, or if you see something you love, buy it and start adding to a collection.   Collections looking great in minimal interiors - say a collection of old keys or antique handbags, or long line of botanical prints or even sweet wrappers beatifully framed.  These sorts of things don't need to be expensive, with good ikea frames and frame mounts done at your local picture framer inexpensively these are a sure way to inject a wonderful warmth to your home!
